Extra support from trained professionals that have stood in your shoes and overcome some of the toughest obstacles. Recovery Coaches, also called Sober Coaches, help you get sober for a day or a lifetime. The bottom line of a Recovery Coach is to help the client live drug/alcohol free. The Recovery Coach’s job is to help someone find a way to live – without a Recovery Coach.
What is a Recovery Coach?
- A Recovery Coach helps facilitate the action steps that are necessary to remain sober and live life, as well as support the individual in challenges that come up in everyday activities.
- A Recovery Coach helps support the individual in catching up with missed time and building up life skills that were not learned.
- A Recovery Coach works with individuals at all stages of sobriety.
- A Recovery Coach initially meets with the individual 3-5 times per week for one-hour sessions, (frequency & length of sessions evaluated monthly and/or bi-monthly).
What a Recovery Coach is Not:
- Life Coach (although there could be similarities depending on the needs of the client)
- Sober Companion (although there could be similarities depending on the needs of the client; I am a Certified Sober Companion)
- Sponsor
- Therapist or Treatment Program
- Personal Assistant
- A Recovery Coach is a source of support that individuals utilize in addition to the above necessary resources
Safe/Sober Transports
Having a loved one finally agree to go get the help they need is an exciting moment but getting them to treatment quickly (before they change their mind) and safely presents plenty of challenges. It is important to understand that a safe transport for that loved one needs to be dispatched immediately. Leaving it for the following day gives your loved one too much time to change their mind, simply vanish, or worse yet many overdose hoping to make their last high a memorable one.
Most of those transports are in different stages of active withdrawal, many are experiencing mental health episodes, and yes many are under the influence of the drug of choice. Each one of these situations requires experience and expertise to accomplish the mission of arriving safely to the scheduled destination. I know that feeling of anxiety, have been in the passenger seat, and hope to be a reassuring example for your loved one that a better life awaits them.
